Counter-rotating

Does counter-rotating not indicate that two things (usually on the same axis) are rotating in opposite directions to each other?

Can it be used to describe a rotating blade on an axis being moved in a direction opposite to the one in which the blade is rotating? I guess the axis and the parts moving the axis are then rotating in the opposite direction from the blade.

  • The idea is so complicated that I think you should aim for clarity, not precision.

An engineer familiar with this sort of machine might understand what you mean by counter-rotating, but it would make no sense to most people.

For your first sense i might write something like rotating counter to one another. For the other (which I perhaps don't understand aright) something like moved counter to the direction of rotation.

  • I guess I'm trying to understand what the expression someone else has used actually means.
