Why Has the Word 'Inappropriate' Adopted Sexual Connotations?

I don't feel as though I need to elaborate too much. Why has the word 'inappropriate' become a synonym for 'sexual'? Why did it lose its initial - and, for some reason, still official - definition of: 'Not suitable or proper in the circumstances,'?
